Bloodborne’s Future Uncertain: Remake and PC Port Hopes on Hold, Says Insider

A Bloodborne remake is a universal desire. Unfortunately, this wish seems unlikely to come true anytime soon, as an insider report indicates “nothing is happening” with the game, not even a PC port.

Jeff Grubb, co-owner of Giant Bomb and a respected industry reporter, delved into this topic on a recent Game Mess podcast alongside Mike Minotti. They addressed fan questions regarding Sony`s PC porting strategy, with a particular focus on Bloodborne.

Minotti raised concerns about a potential slowdown in PC port releases, asking Grubb for his perspective. He hypothesized that Bloodborne`s stalled progress is likely due to the necessity of From Software`s involvement, a studio currently occupied with major projects like Elden Ring Nightreign and The Duskbloods. Grubb concurred, suggesting that From Software might be reluctant to undertake such a project with Sony at this time.

Grubb elaborated, “Any involvement beyond From Software would still require their input, and they’re not prioritizing it right now, as far as I know… My understanding of the situation remains constant. Recent inquiries confirmed that `nothing is happening with Bloodborne, so don`t expect it.`”

Both hosts found it perplexing that popular titles like the 2020 Demon`s Souls remake and the 2022 racing sim Gran Turismo 7 haven`t yet made their way to PC. However, the absence of a Bloodborne remake, a game fervently demanded by its fanbase, was particularly baffling to them.

Bloodborne, the highly acclaimed Lovecraftian action-RPG, debuted a decade ago and has been exclusively available on the PlayStation 4 ever since, with no official hint of a port or modern remaster. While director Hidetaka Miyazaki has been reserved on the subject, he did imply in February 2024 that newer console hardware, specifically the PlayStation 5, could potentially “add value” to a hypothetical remake.

Despite Miyazaki`s intriguing suggestion about the potential value of a remake on powerful new hardware, its relevance to Bloodborne is currently nil, given the persistent lack of progress on any form of update or port. Adding to fan frustration, a former PlayStation executive speculated that Miyazaki`s busy schedule might be the impediment, and Sony has even actively suppressed a fan-created patch that introduced a higher frame rate to the iconic soulslike.

It increasingly feels as though Bloodborne is consigned to obscurity, never to be revived. However, as the adage goes, “never say never.” While there is no official confirmation or immediate activity, this doesn`t definitively rule out future developments. Patience, truly, is a virtue.

In other news from From Software, their latest title, Nightrein, recently received a new `Deep of Night` mode, elevating its already formidable difficulty. Best of luck, Nightfarer.
