Bloober Team, the studio behind the upcoming title Cronos: The New Dawn, is looking to challenge Nintendo`s established family-friendly image by re-establishing its consoles as a leading platform for thrilling horror experiences. Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team, expressed his personal ambition to usher in a “second golden age of horror” on the highly anticipated Switch 2. He fondly recalls the Nintendo GameCube era, which was a haven for cult-classic horror games such as Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 0, and Resident Evil 4.
“I`m trying to make my personal dreams come true. I am a huge Nintendo fan. I grew up with Nintendo consoles. The most important horrors, like Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4—were available on Nintendo GameCube. It was a golden time for Nintendo fans. In some ways, we would like to be the ones to open a new chapter for Nintendo right now. We have some plans. We are not able to share our vision for the future yet. But definitely Nintendo fans could take a look at Bloober Team.”
Babieno hinted that the “cozy horror” concept, exemplified by games like Luigi`s Mansion, could provide a glimpse into the studio`s future direction, suggesting a significant potential to revisit and evolve such ideas. While detailed plans remain under wraps, Bloober Team is clearly positioning itself to be a key player in shaping the horror landscape on Nintendo`s next-generation console.
Among the limited horror titles currently announced for the Switch 2, Cronos: The New Dawn stands out. While games like Little Nightmares 3 promise a subtler kind of dread, Bloober Team`s offering is set to deliver a more visceral and unsettling experience. Players will navigate through time, confronting grotesque creatures that possess the ability to merge, gaining enhanced, fleshy power-ups in the process.
