BioShock 4 Faces Development Hurdles; Remake Canceled

Recent reports have revealed unsettling details regarding the future of the BioShock franchise. According to Bloomberg, the new BioShock game, under development by Cloud Chamber since its announcement in 2019, reportedly `failed a review,` leading to the cancellation of a planned remake of the original BioShock.

A key issue highlighted in the report was the narrative of the upcoming BioShock title, which was deemed `particularly in need of improvement.` Sources indicate that the story is now slated for a complete `revamp.`

In a related development, studio head Kelley Gilmore was reportedly `outed` by 2K Games, while creative director Hogarth de la Plante transitioned to a `publishing role.` Recent internal meetings at Cloud Chamber, focusing on `agility and efficiency,` have reportedly raised concerns about potential layoffs among staff.

Despite these challenges, a 2K Games spokesperson informed Bloomberg that Cloud Chamber is indeed working on a `good game,` emphasizing the publisher`s dedication to ensuring a `great` final product. The spokesperson also confirmed the aforementioned changes within the leadership team.

Regarding the rumored BioShock remake, the report simply noted its shelving earlier this year, without further details.

The BioShock franchise remains a significant asset for Take-Two, with individual titles selling over 5 million units each, and the series collectively exceeding 43 million copies sold. Furthermore, a BioShock film adaptation is currently in production for Netflix.

BioShock 4 is being developed by Cloud Chamber, a relatively new 2K studio that has yet to release any games. Cloud Chamber positions itself as a `collective of storytellers` dedicated to creating `unique, entertaining, and thoughtful experiences.` The studio operates with offices in San Francisco and Montreal.

Notably, Ken Levine, the original creator of BioShock, has confirmed his complete detachment from BioShock 4`s development.

“I don`t want to do half measures. I never want to be half in half out. I wish them the best. I know as much about the game as anybody else, essentially. And I`ll play it as a player when it comes out,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Levine continues his partnership with Take-Two and is currently developing his own game, Judas.
