Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, released in 2017, holds its place as one of the standout first-person shooters of the past decade. The game captivated players with its blend of brutal combat and a compelling Nazi-hunting narrative, featuring protagonist BJ Blazkowicz`s ultimate face-off with Adolf Hitler himself. While many who played the game likely remember this pivotal confrontation, the development team has now revealed that the scene almost included a significantly more graphic detail.
Indeed, if not for the intervention of senior executives at Bethesda, the game would have featured an explicit depiction of Hitler`s rather unusual anatomy.
During an interview with Noclip (as reported by IGN), MachineGames studio director Jerk Gustatfsson shared this intriguing piece of information while discussing the game`s creation. The proposed controversial element was intended for a scene where Hitler is shown urinating into a bucket – a segment that ultimately remained in the game – as Blazkowicz prepared for a film audition.
Game director Jens Matthies further explained that he approached a Bethesda production executive with the idea and was advised against including it. As a result, the final version of the scene only showed Hitler violently vomiting and haphazardly urinating into a bucket, without any explicit anatomical view.
This decision might have been for the best, considering historical accounts suggest that Hitler – whose role in WWII famously ended with a self-inflicted gunshot wound – reportedly also possessed peculiar genitalia. Without delving into excessive detail, it`s implied that this characteristic might have offered a humorous, albeit morbid, explanation for his poor aim in that particular scene.
For those interested in more fictional takes on Hitler`s anatomy, the Sniper Elite series offers a bonus DLC mission allowing players to eliminate the dictator. If a player opts for a shot to the groin, the game graphically depicts a single testicle, alluding to historical rumors.
In other news from MachineGames, their latest title, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, launched last year, with its DLC, The Order of Giants, currently available. Fans of the Wolfenstein franchise are still eagerly awaiting a third full-length game. While the spin-off Youngblood hinted at a future installment starring a much older BJ Blazkowicz, a concrete release date for such a title remains unconfirmed.
