David Goldfarb, the acclaimed designer behind Battlefield: Bad Company, has expressed his positive impressions following the recent multiplayer reveal of Battlefield 6. Taking to social media, Goldfarb enthusiastically declared, `Yeah… Back as f**k.`
However, he later tempered his excitement with a clarification, noting that while the initial presentation was promising, it’s still too early to definitively confirm if the game truly signifies a return to the series` former glory. `For sure, we are not back until, you know, we can verify firsthand. But optically, we are back,` he added.
Goldfarb`s history with the franchise runs deep, having contributed to several key titles at DICE, including Battlefield: Bad Company 1 and 2, as well as Battlefield 3. Developers at Battlefield Studios have positioned Battlefield 6 as a spiritual successor to fan favorites Battlefield 3 and 4. Goldfarb himself had previously remarked that early leaked footage from Battlefield 6`s tests invoked a strong Bad Company 2 vibe.
After his tenure at DICE, Goldfarb transitioned to Overkill, where he served as game director for Payday 2. He currently holds the positions of studio creative director and CCO at The Outsiders, a developer owned by Funcom.
In contrast to 2021`s Battlefield 2042, which saw a mixed reception from fans due to significant changes, Battlefield 6 appears to be embracing the classic formula. It reportedly reverts to a traditional class system, echoing the setup of earlier, more beloved entries in the series. This strategic shift seems to have garnered a largely positive sentiment around Battlefield 6 so far.
Battlefield 6 is slated for release on October 10, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Notably, the game will not be launching on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch 2. An open beta for Battlefield 6 is anticipated in the near future, and a battle royale mode is also reportedly under development.
