Battlefield 6 Won’t Feature Ray Tracing: Performance is Key

Battlefield 6 will not include ray tracing capabilities, a decision made by the development team to instead concentrate on maximizing performance and optimization. This was confirmed by Christian Buhl, the technical director at Ripple Effect, one of the studios contributing to the Battlefield franchise.

In an interview with ComicBook, Buhl explicitly stated that there are no plans for ray tracing at the game`s launch or in the foreseeable future. He elaborated on this choice, explaining, “We wanted to focus on performance. Our efforts were directed towards ensuring the game is as optimized as possible for the default settings and the vast majority of players.”

The decision to exclude ray tracing was made “early on” in the development cycle. Buhl further clarified the reasoning in a separate discussion, revealing that a significant percentage of participants in the Battlefield 6 beta were playing on systems that met or fell below the minimum recommended specifications.

“Minimum spec is certainly one of our most important specs,” Buhl emphasized. “It`s super important from both a commercial and business perspective—we want as many people as possible playing the game.”

An emphasis on ray tracing would directly contradict this philosophy of making the game accessible and ensuring smooth performance across a wide range of PC hardware. Additionally, Buhl expressed his regret regarding the mandatory Secure Boot requirement for Battlefield 6 on PC, which unfortunately prevented some players from participating in the beta. While he wished “everyone could play,” he clarified that Secure Boot is a necessary measure to combat cheaters and enhance EA`s ability to detect them.

EA recently released the official PC specifications for Battlefield 6`s upcoming launch. This announcement follows recent leaks from Battlefield Labs playtests, which have offered glimpses into the game`s expansive maps and its anticipated battle royale mode.

Players eager for Battlefield 6 won`t have to wait much longer, as the game is scheduled to launch on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 on October 10. In the interim, players can engage with Battlefield 2042 to unlock free cosmetic items for Battlefield 6 as part of the ongoing `Road To Battlefield 6` event.
