Electronic Arts appears to be making another foray into the battle royale genre with a mode specifically designed for Battlefield. During the recent multiplayer reveal event for Battlefield 6, the company strongly hinted at the revival of “Firestorm,” a battle royale mode previously featured in Battlefield V.
A teaser video presented during the event showcased soldiers scattering across a vibrant tropical landscape. As the camera dramatically pulled back, a colossal firestorm was seen descending from a nearby mountain, engulfing the area. While the developers carefully avoided explicitly using terms like “battle royale” or “Firestorm,” the visual cues left little doubt about the mode`s nature. Enthusiasts will have the opportunity to test this new experience firsthand through the Battlefield Labs testing program.
Despite the clear visual hints, EA`s event hosts stopped short of officially confirming the mode`s name as “Firestorm,” though they frequently alluded to it.
The original Firestorm mode in Battlefield V was integrated directly into the game and was only accessible to players who owned a copy. For the upcoming iteration in Battlefield 6, it remains uncertain whether this new mode will be available as a standalone download or if it will require a full purchase of Battlefield 6.
When Firestorm first launched in 2018, many perceived it as an underdeveloped concept. It was widely believed that EA had rushed its implementation to capitalize on the then-surging popularity of battle royale games.
