While Battlefield 6 still demands significant disk space, its overall footprint is less imposing than many anticipated. According to its Steam listing, the game`s installation size varies between 55GB and 80GB, which, even at the upper limit, is comparatively smaller than several other contemporary titles.
An EA representative clarified to PC Gamer that the variation in Battlefield 6`s file size on Steam is due to players` ability to select specific game components for installation. This means users can opt to install only the single-player campaign or just the multiplayer mode, among other choices.
Specific file sizes for individual Battlefield 6 components have not been detailed, and it remains uncertain if similar selective installation options will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles, or what their respective sizes will be. Further information has been sought from EA.
In contrast, Call of Duty, Battlefield`s primary rival in the first-person shooter genre, is notorious for its extremely large file sizes. However, similar to Battlefield, Call of Duty titles also permit players to selectively install specific game segments, such as the campaign or multiplayer modes.
Notably, Call of Duty HQ, the central hub for recent Call of Duty titles, recently saw a significant reduction in its size, following the removal of two prominent games from its platform.
The open beta for Battlefield 6 is set to commence on August 7th for a select group of participants, with a broader rollout planned later in the month. Preloading is currently available across all supported platforms.
