Battlefield 6: Reviving Signature Destruction Mechanics

Jeremy Chubb, the multiplayer producer for Battlefield 6, has outlined the Battlefield Studios team`s strategy for the upcoming title, with a particular emphasis on bringing back a quintessential element of the series: the dynamic environmental destruction system.

In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Chubb highlighted that 2010`s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 stood out as a benchmark for the franchise due to its “comprehensive” destruction capabilities. The developers are highly motivated to replicate this highly praised feature in the new installment.

Chubb elaborated, “When we look for excellence in our legacy, [Bad Company 2] is where we find it. That game particularly delivered on a level of fidelity and a sort of intimate destructive experience. Blasting out a single wall, bringing down a partial building, or entire buildings – it was comprehensive, and it felt like the identity of that game more than anything else.”

He openly conceded that this impactful destruction feature was “somewhat missing” from Battlefield 2042, and that the team`s primary goal was to “really go back to that” for Battlefield 6.

Notably, David Goldfarb, a key designer involved in Bad Company 2, previously remarked that early leaked alpha footage of Battlefield 6 gave off strong “Bad Company 2 vibes.” Beyond the direct influence of Bad Company 2, the development team behind Battlefield 6 has also drawn inspiration from other acclaimed entries in the series, specifically Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4.

While 2021`s Battlefield 2042 struggled to meet many fans` expectations, the teams at EA have acknowledged learning significant lessons from its reception. The initial feedback following the recent large-scale multiplayer reveal for Battlefield 6 has been largely positive. However, only the game`s official release will confirm its ultimate success. In addition to its core multiplayer and campaign modes, a new battle royale experience is also currently under development for Battlefield 6.

The highly anticipated open beta for Battlefield 6 is scheduled to commence on August 7 for a select group of early access participants, with a wider public release planned for later in August. The full game is set to launch on October 10, arriving on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
