When the initial roster for Tony Hawk`s Pro Skater 3 + 4 was announced, one significant name was noticeably absent: Bam Margera. As one of the most popular skaters of that era and a familiar face in multiple previous Tony Hawk games, he was the only member of the original THPS 3 cast not included in the remake at first. However, Margera was eventually added to the game at the eleventh hour. In a recent interview with VGC, Margera revealed that a chance encounter with Tony Hawk in Los Angeles is the reason for his return to the game.
Margera explained that he was in LA during a period when he hadn`t spoken with Hawk for about a year, a time when Margera admitted he “wasn’t doing too good.” Following a phone call and an invitation to visit Hawk`s private skate park, the Hawk`s Nest, Margera recalled that Hawk was clearly impressed by the progress he had made.
“I grabbed my skateboard, put on some knee pads, and we ended up ollieing over each other on the big channel,” Margera recounted from the interview. Hawk`s reaction was, “He’s like, ‘What is going on? You are back.’” Margera attributed his recent improvement to his new wife, a stretch coach, who has played a significant role in improving his physical health, allowing him to fully return to skateboarding.
“He was quite surprised by that,” Margera added. “And I believe that really motivated him to contact Activision, even knowing they were up against a deadline, to see what kind of influence he could use to get me back in. All of that came about just from that short, special visit.”
Bam Margera joins a diverse roster in Tony Hawk`s Pro Skater 3 + 4 that features a mix of both emerging talent and legendary skaters, including names like Zion Wright, Margie Didal, Bob Burnquist, and Tony Hawk himself. The game also includes several unique guest characters available as playable skaters, such as the Doom Slayer from id Software`s first-person shooter series Doom and Michaelangelo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Tony Hawk`s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is currently available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
