Nearly twenty-five years after its initial release on the Nintendo GameCube, Super Smash Bros. Melee continues to maintain a vibrant presence, especially within its dedicated modding community. A notable modder known as Mooshies recently introduced one of gaming`s newest breakout characters to the classic fighting roster: Jimbo from the acclaimed roguelike deck-builder, Balatro.
This charming jester’s variant in Super Smash Bros. Melee functions as a complete visual re-skin of Mr. Game & Watch, retaining all of the original character`s movements and attack mechanics. However, Mooshies’ clever modification replaces all of Mr. Game & Watch’s signature weapons and sound effects with recognizable cards, imagery, and audio cues directly sourced from the immensely popular 2024 hit, Balatro.
Mooshies unveiled a concise gameplay trailer showcasing Jimbo in action, highlighting the imaginative and often comical ways he utilizes Balatro`s distinctive jokers and card packs in fierce battles against iconic fighters such as Falco and Marth. While initially offered as a paid mod, enthusiastic Melee players can now acquire and enjoy Jimbo by visiting Mooshies` Patreon page.
The broader Super Smash Bros. franchise has experienced a period of quiet regarding new official content since the final update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in 2021. That significant update famously introduced Sora from Kingdom Hearts as the concluding downloadable fighter in SSBU`s Fighter Pack 2. Prior DLC additions to Smash Bros. Ultimate included fan favorites like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, Steve and Alex from Minecraft, and Kazuya from Tekken.
Even with the current pause in Smash Bros. updates, the series` legendary creator, Masahiro Sakurai, remains actively engaged in new projects. His upcoming title, Kirby Air Riders, is scheduled for release on November 20 for the Nintendo Switch 2, and it was recently the central focus of a comprehensive 45-minute Nintendo Direct presentation earlier this month.
