The Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition Console is now available for pre-order at a price of $170. This eye-catching, bright yellow retro system was unveiled in July as part of Bandai Namco`s year-long celebration of Pac-Man`s 45th anniversary. The console bundle includes a matching CX40+ Wireless Joystick and the new Atari 7800 game, Pac-Man: Double Feature, on a cartridge. The Pac-Man Edition Console is set to be released on October 31.
As its name suggests, “Pac-Man: Double Feature” includes two games on a single cartridge. Most notably, players can enjoy “Pac-Man 7800,” a brand-new arcade-style rendition of the classic game. The other title on the cartridge is “Pac-Man 2600” (1982), which represents the original console iteration of Pac-Man.

Alongside the console`s release, additional CX40+ Wireless Joysticks, featuring themes of Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde, will be available for $40 each. For those who prefer matching controllers, the Pac-Man Edition CX40+ is also sold separately at the same price. Notably, these controllers also offer wireless compatibility with PCs.
In addition to “Pac-Man: Double Feature,” Atari and Bandai Namco have collaborated to release new Atari 7800 cartridge editions of three other classic games: Galaga, Dig Dug, and Xevious. These three Namco classics were among the original launch titles for the Atari 7800 nearly four decades ago, making their re-release with the Pac-Man Edition Console a fitting tribute. Unlike “Pac-Man: Double Feature,” these are updated editions that faithfully recreate the gameplay of their 1986 originals.

Console Compatibility and Design
The Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition Console is a special variant of a system initially launched by Deep Silver in 2023, priced at $130. Unlike the original 2600+, which featured a wired joystick, this updated console retains compatibility with authentic cartridges, supporting both 2600 and 7800 formats—explaining why all Bandai Namco cartridges are designed for the Atari 7800. Both the new cartridges and wireless joysticks are also compatible with the Atari 7800+, a 2024 system bundled with a wireless CX78 Gamepad and a new `Crystal Castles` sequel.
It`s important to note that the 7800+ and 2600+ are essentially the same console, differing only in design, with all new games and accessories released for Atari Plus platforms over the past two years being cross-compatible. While its distinctive yellow casing makes the Pac-Man Edition Console highly noticeable, Atari and Bandai Namco opted for a minimalist design approach. The yellow is subtly accented by a black control panel and faceplate, featuring an iconic illustration of Pac-Man consuming dots while being pursued by Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde.
CX40+ Wireless Joystick Details
The Atari CX40+ is a modern recreation of the original Atari 2600 joystick. These rechargeable controllers come equipped with a pair of USB wireless adapters. The Pac-Man and Ghost Edition adapters are color-matched to their respective joysticks. The DB9 adapter is compatible with Atari 2600+ and 7800+ consoles, while the USB-A adapter allows these sticks to work with PCs. For those interested in PC compatibility, the standard black CX40+ Wireless Joystick is available for $35. Additionally, the CX78+ Wireless Gamepad, originally bundled with the Atari 7800+, can also be used with the Pac-Man Edition Console and is sold separately for $33 (down from $35).
Bandai Namco Cartridge Artwork and Collection
A compelling detail for collectors and long-time Pac-Man enthusiasts regarding “Pac-Man: Double Feature” is that the artist responsible for the 1982 Atari 2600 “Pac-Man” release also created the new artwork for the upcoming 7800 cartridge. Hiro Kimura`s fresh original illustrations are featured on the box, manual, cartridge labels, and sleeve. The manual also contains exclusive additional content, including interviews. These four Bandai Namco cartridges are priced five dollars higher than most Atari+ 2600 and 7800 cartridges. A wider selection of over 20 compatible cartridges is also available.
