Astro Bot Expands with Free Update: Five New Levels and Exciting Cameos

Astro Bot has just received its latest free update, bringing five additional levels and new bot cameos to Team Asobi`s highly acclaimed platformer, which has won multiple Game of the Year awards.

This update, initially announced during Sony`s June 2025 State of Play presentation, introduces a new area for players to explore: the Vicious Void galaxy. Four of the new levels are titled Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, Handhold Havoc, and High Inflation. The name of the fifth level is being kept a surprise. With these additions, Astro Bot`s total level count now exceeds 90.

The developer hinted that completing the new galaxy “might lead to something really cool,” encouraging players to jump in and discover what awaits them.

True to form for an Astro Bot update, new Special Bot cameos are available for players to find. One confirmed appearance is the protagonist from Sucker Punch`s upcoming title, Ghost of Yotei, which was also featured in a recent State of Play.

Other cameos players have found include Cloud and Sephiroth from Square-Enix`s Final Fantasy 7 series. Cloud is even capable of performing his signature Omnislash attack when prompted. Another popular character, 2B from NieR: Automata, can also be discovered. Many fans had expressed interest in seeing Square-Enix, particularly Final Fantasy characters, included in Astro Bot since its launch, so their addition is a welcome sight.

Beyond the new levels, Sony also announced a new limited-edition Astro Bot DualSense controller during the June State of Play. This controller features a slightly different design compared to a previous version. Pre-orders are not yet available, but Sony stated it would launch later this year and promised more details soon.

Prior to this update, Astro Bot received support for PlayStation 5 Pro and added more challenging levels in February. Team Asobi`s platformer has been recognized with numerous Game of the Year accolades, including awards at The Game Awards 2024 and the BAFTA Awards 2025. Reviewers also praised it as one of the top games of 2024.
