The recent launch of Marathon clearly demonstrates that the gaming market has ample room for multiple major extraction shooters. This trend is evident on Steam’s list of best-selling games.
Marathon currently maintains a strong presence near the top of the charts, holding the sixth position. ARC Raiders, meanwhile, comfortably sits at ninth place.
Predictions of Marathon’s potential failure, often compared to the performance of titles like Concord or Highguard, have not materialized. The game boasts an impressive 88% positive user rating on Steam, and on its release day, it attracted over 88,000 concurrent players. These figures effectively refute any claims labeling Marathon as “Concord 3.0.” Furthermore, its average rating on the PlayStation Store is also robust, standing at 4.66 out of 5.
Conversely, ARC Raiders has remained largely unaffected by Marathon’s debut, particularly within the Steam ecosystem. In fact, on March 8th, ARC Raiders experienced a notable surge in its player base, reaching more than 235,000 concurrent users.
This positive momentum for ARC Raiders can be partly attributed to its latest update, which introduced new content and features. Ultimately, both extraction shooters are continuing their development in parallel, proving that the market is expansive enough to support both titles successfully.
