Amusement Park Guest Lights Up During Mario Kart Ride Breakdown

Theme park rides are known for their occasional, often ill-timed, breakdowns. During a recent stoppage on Universal Studios` Super Nintendo World Mario Kart attraction, one guest reportedly took full advantage of the unexpected pause by lighting up and smoking cannabis.

A video, widely circulated by the “Universal High” account on X (formerly Twitter), captured an individual on the “Mario Kart: Bowser`s Challenge” ride during an unscheduled halt. The footage clearly depicts the passenger lighting and smoking what appears to be cannabis while the ride was paused, awaiting its resumption.

“Universal High” quickly noted that the video was initially posted by another user on Instagram, although that original post seems to have since been removed. The currently unidentified fan in the video features some distinctive tattoos on their hand and thumb. It remains unclear whether park staff identified the individual or if any disciplinary action was taken for smoking on the attraction.

Earlier this year, Universal Orlando introduced an expanded Super Nintendo World as a key feature of its new Epic Universe theme park. This expansion includes new attractions such as “Donkey Kong`s Mine-Cart Madness” and “Yoshi`s Adventure,” along with interactive elements accessible via Power Up Bands worn by guests.

Beyond Super Nintendo World, Epic Universe also boasts four other innovative themed lands for visitors to explore: Celestial Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, Dark Universe, and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk.
