Earlier this year, the celebrated 90s video game publisher Acclaim made a comeback, reigniting hopes for fans of its classic titles. Now, the re-established entity has revealed that its inaugural “Play Acclaim” digital showcase will debut its first new game titles in more than twenty years, with the event scheduled for next month.
The “Play Acclaim” event is set to broadcast live on the company`s official YouTube channel on September 10, at 11:30 AM PT / 2:30 PM ET. A promotional teaser for the showcase prominently displayed numerous classic games from Acclaim`s original 90s catalog, such as Mortal Kombat 2, NBA Jam, and Terminator 2. Intriguingly, the teaser concludes with a memorable quote from Neo in The Matrix, hinting at a new era.
A Bold Vision for the Future
Acclaim CEO Alex Josef articulated the company`s vision in a statement, emphasizing a forward-looking approach: “Our goal isn`t to dwell on the past. We aim to harness the vibrant energy and distinctive chaos that defined Acclaim and redirect it toward innovative ventures. As the old foundations shift, something fresh and compelling is emerging… While we cannot alter history, we can certainly build upon it. This endeavor is about embracing our legacy and propelling it into a future that is audacious, dynamic, and entirely novel.”
Upon its re-establishment last March, Acclaim committed to “supporting independent developers and revitalizing beloved classic franchises.” However, it remains uncertain if any of the licensed games or franchises prominently featured in the teaser video will be part of Acclaim`s future development plans or merely serve as nostalgic nods to its heritage.
Joining Josef in Acclaim`s leadership is veteran wrestler Jeff Jarrett, known for his illustrious career in WWE, TNA, and AEW. The company also boasts strategic partnerships with various entities, including Striker Entertainment, Ridge Partners, Global Force Entertainment, VaynerFund, and JET Management, signaling a multifaceted approach to its revival.
