Despite pleas from players for a delayed release to allow for further development, 1348 Ex Voto launched in an unpolished state.
1348 Ex Voto was initially envisioned as an atmospheric adventure set in medieval Italy. Players were meant to control Aeta, a young, brave noblewoman and wandering knight embarking on a perilous journey through chaotic lands to find her friend Bianca (voiced by Jennifer English). The game was marketed as a third-person action-adventure featuring knightly combat and the investigation of her companion’s disappearance.
However, initial reviews and player feedback have been overwhelmingly negative. The game scored a mere 50% based on 7 reviews on Opencritic, and its Steam reception is similarly poor, with “mixed” reviews and approximately 52% positive ratings.
Key criticisms include poor optimization, technical issues, a simplistic and repetitive combat system, chaotic auto-targeting, and a shallow plot. Reviewers acknowledge the project’s interesting concept and historical setting but widely conclude that it was released prematurely and requires significant further development.
