IO Interactive, the acclaimed developer behind the Hitman series, is once again showcasing its exceptional skill in crafting immersive level designs. For their upcoming James Bond title, 007: First Light, the studio has revealed that the game will feature some of the most expansive and intricately designed levels in its history. A recent State of Play presentation offered a sneak peek at this interactive design, as viewers watched Bond navigate a sprawling Slovakian hotel. This particular mission drew comparisons to Hitman`s memorable 2016 Parisian fashion show level, highlighting numerous opportunities for stealth, espionage, and inventive infiltration.
Rasmus Poulsen, the franchise art director, elaborated on one such mission, the Chateau, during an interview with GamesRadar. He explained: “When you arrive, we dive into much more familiar territory from an IO perspective and from an audience perspective, where we have this chateau laid out before you, which then has in it everything from social gameplay up to the larger areas where you are free to roam around and utilize the width of the gameplay that we have to offer. I would say some of the missions in the game are the largest we`ve done in our history in terms of measurements.”
Should these ambitious claims hold true, fans of the Bond franchise can look forward to hours of deep exploration within meticulously detailed game worlds, a hallmark of IO Interactive`s talent for creating complex and engaging environments. The Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy already set a high bar with its vast and celebrated locations, including the superb Sapienza, the opulent Dubai skyscraper, and the intricate Club 27 warehouse in Berlin. The State of Play demonstration further underscored how players will embody the essence of Agent 007 in every mission, leveraging gadgets, combat prowess, and sharp intellect to uncover new paths and achieve objectives.
007: First Light is scheduled for release on March 27, 2026, across multiple platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and the upcoming Switch 2. For those who missed the initial livestream, additional insights are available, including 14 new details about the James Bond game, 110 exclusive adventure screenshots, an overview of the celebrity voice cast, and a closer examination of the $300 Specialist Edition, which notably includes a replica golden gun.
