Major customers, including Qualcomm, are actively seeking to diversify their manufacturing and secure backup facilities outside of Taiwan.
According to Taiwan Economic Daily, TSMC’s American operations are currently overwhelmed with orders, leaving virtually no available capacity for new clients.
There’s particularly high interest in the TSMC Arizona project, where the company is actively expanding production. However, sources indicate that the current pace of expansion is insufficient to meet the demands of major clients like NVIDIA, Apple, and AMD.
The situation has escalated to the point where customers are attempting to pre-book capacity that hasn’t even been built yet. Specifically, the fourth fab, intended for 2nm or A16 process chips by the end of the decade, is already fully reserved.
Analysts attribute this surge in interest in American facilities to geopolitical risks. Major clients, including Qualcomm, aim to diversify their supply chains and secure backup production sites outside of Taiwan. In this context, TSMC’s international expansion, particularly in the U.S., becomes a key factor in building trust with American companies.
