Even though Naughty Dog is currently busy developing a new project, “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet,” the gaming community remains confident about a return to the beloved saga of the infected world.

Recently, Neil Druckmann shared archival sketches from 2003 on social media, describing them as an early concept for a story about “a man, his adopted daughter, and their journey through a ravaged America.” However, it was not the sketches themselves that caused the biggest stir, but an accompanying remark. Druckmann stated that it had been an “incredible journey,” and he cherishes every moment of it, “especially the few stops that are still ahead.” Gamers immediately interpreted this last phrase as a subtle hint at a possible continuation of The Last of Us series.

These speculations are not unfounded, as Druckmann had previously indicated that the saga might not be over. In a documentary about the making of the second part, he spoke of a concept that, according to him, is as captivating as the first two games and fits harmoniously into the overall framework of a potential trilogy. At that time, a key phrase was uttered: “Perhaps there’s one more chapter to this story.”

While there has been no official announcement of The Last of Us Part III for PlayStation 5 or future consoles, Druckmann’s post has reignited interest and provided fans with new grounds for active discussion. Given the tremendous success of the TV series adaptation and the strategic importance of the franchise for the PlayStation platform, it’s clear that the gaming community is not ready to say goodbye to the captivating world of Ellie and Joel.
