Stormgate Servers Shut Down by Blizzard Veteran Studio, Offline Mode Confirmed

The creators of the real-time strategy game Stormgate have announced that the game’s servers will cease operations at the end of April. This decision, however, was not made directly by the developer, Frost Giant Studios, a team comprised of veterans from Blizzard Entertainment.

The developers clarified that their server partner, Hathora, was recently acquired by an AI company, which led to the discontinuation of their server infrastructure services.

In response, the Stormgate team has revealed plans for an upcoming patch that will introduce an offline mode. This will allow players to continue their experience within the game without needing an internet connection. Nevertheless, online multiplayer modes will not be accessible in the initial rollout of this patch.

Frost Giant Studios has expressed hope that they can reintroduce online functionalities in a future update. However, some players remain skeptical about this possibility, especially considering the game’s current low concurrent player count on Steam, typically ranging between 30-40 users, despite it being a free-to-play title.
