Starry Studio Under Fire for AI-Generated Once Human Promo Videos

Starry Studio, the developer behind the post-apocalyptic MMO Once Human, has faced a wave of criticism following the release of promotional videos entirely generated by artificial intelligence. For three consecutive days, the studio published AI-created clips, sparking significant backlash from the gaming community.

Social media users sharply condemned these videos not only for their AI origin but also for their tenuous connection to the actual game content. For instance, one minute-long video depicted a mechanical monster known as a ‘Devourer’ attacking a desert camp, despite Once Human featuring no desert locations. Commentators also described the video’s quality as cheap and appalling.

The situation is exacerbated by the fact that this is not an isolated incident. Previously:

  • On March 20th, an AI-generated video showcasing an underwater scene and exploration of a ruined subway system was released.
  • On March 21st, another AI-generated first-person shooter-style video depicting an abandoned metro station followed.
