Starfield on Nintendo Switch 2: Insider Reveals Complex Development Journey

Following initial speculation that its port might be canceled, a new glimmer of hope has emerged for Bethesda’s expansive space RPG, Starfield, to eventually make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Starfield, a flagship title from Xbox Game Studios, is already expanding its availability to other platforms, with its PlayStation 5 release slated for April 7th. Despite earlier pessimistic forecasts, it now appears that a version specifically for Nintendo’s upcoming console is indeed under development.

Insider NateTheHate recently shared on X (formerly Twitter) that while development is progressing, it “wasn’t the smoothest process. Fingers crossed and let’s hope for the best.” This statement provides a contrasting perspective to another reliable insider, shinobi602, who last month suggested the port had been “delayed” and “might not come out at all.” While Bethesda evidently hasn’t abandoned the project, a guaranteed release remains uncertain.

This situation isn’t unique; other prominent studios have also encountered significant hurdles when attempting to adapt their games for the Nintendo Switch 2. A notable example is Gearbox with Borderlands 4. Although Bethesda has a successful track record of porting anniversary editions of Skyrim and Fallout 4, Starfield represents a vastly different level of scale and inherent complexity.

Further complicating the development scenario is the anticipated “Free Lanes” update for Starfield, which adds another layer of challenge to the porting process.
