Shigeru Miyamoto has outlined a clear vision for the future of one of his beloved series. The acclaimed creator of Mario and Zelda openly stated his “mission”: to ensure the charming Pikmin characters appear in as many Nintendo products as possible, going far beyond the realm of video games.
In a recent interview, Miyamoto expressed his ambition to significantly broaden Pikmin’s presence across the entire Nintendo ecosystem. His overarching goal is to “feature Pikmin in every conceivable Nintendo product,” irrespective of its specific format or medium.

The initial manifestations of this strategy are already becoming apparent. Pikmin characters have begun making appearances in the interactive Super Nintendo World theme parks and even secured a cameo role in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” This represents a crucial advancement, especially considering that the Pikmin series has historically not reached the blockbuster popularity of Nintendo’s flagship titles. Despite this, Miyamoto has consistently regarded Pikmin as one of the most vital projects in his illustrious career and has continuously strived to elevate the brand’s recognition.
Pikmin, a real-time strategy game series, first launched in 2001. Its most recent installment, Pikmin 4, achieved the highest sales success in the franchise’s history. Miyamoto’s declaration clearly indicates a forward-looking trajectory: Pikmin is now positioned to evolve into a multifaceted brand that transcends traditional video gaming, embracing films and a wide array of other media ventures by the company.
