Saber Interactive Apologizes for Space Marine 2 DLC Quality, Issues Refunds, and Makes Content Free

Saber Interactive has issued an apology to players of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and announced full refunds for the Chapter Voice Pack 1 DLC. This content will now be made available to all players for free, following significant negative feedback regarding its quality.

The Chapter Voice Pack 1, released in late February, was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews from the community. Players expressed considerable dissatisfaction with both the quality of the voice acting and the limited number of recorded lines included in the pack.

In response to player concerns, the game director at Saber Interactive released an official statement. The studio acknowledged that the voice pack did not meet player expectations and offered an apology, emphasizing their commitment to delivering high-quality content, whether paid or free.

The developers clarified that the voice pack was initially designed to include “combat lines”—responses to in-game combat situations not tied to specific missions. Each character in the pack features over 450 lines across seven languages. However, this did not cover the much larger volume of pre-recorded, mission-specific dialogues, which total approximately 1500 lines per operation. Saber Interactive admitted to mismanaging player expectations, which led to the content feeling incomplete. They cited various production constraints, such as voice actor availability for localization and the continuous need to update voice packages with new operations, as reasons for the pack’s current form. These same limitations, they noted, prevent them from expanding the pack to include the missing lines.

Consequently, Saber Interactive decided to refund all purchasers of the Chapter Voice Pack 1 and make the DLC free for everyone. The studio reaffirmed its belief in the importance of customization, both in appearance and sound, for maintaining the game’s atmosphere. Discussions are currently underway with platform holders, and refunds are expected to begin in early April. Reports indicate that Steam users have already started receiving their refunds.
