Peter Dow, a 71-year-old British tech mogul, has established a vast 607-hectare self-sufficient estate in rural Norfolk. This refuge is designed to accommodate up to a thousand people, intended for survival in the event of a global collapse brought about by geopolitical instability or economic crisis.
Dow’s farm is equipped with everything necessary for autonomous living: its own mill, an abattoir, dairy production facilities, and even machinery to produce diesel fuel from vegetable oil. The pensioner has also amassed significant stores of canned goods and developed a plan to attract like-minded individuals. Those wishing to join this survivalist community are expected to contribute an annual fee ranging from £10,000 to £100,000.
Peter Dow, who was awarded an Order of the British Empire for his efforts in combating child pornography, notes that his ideas, once dismissed as absurd two decades ago, are now taken seriously. While he deems a nuclear war unlikely, he believes that economic problems could lead to societal degradation, mirroring scenarios seen in countries like Zimbabwe or Lebanon. Therefore, he advocates for proactive preparation, rather than relying on government intervention.
