Some players believe that an $8 indie game should consistently receive free content and have a clear development roadmap.
Indie developers Aggro Crab and Landfall have addressed player criticism directed at their cooperative game PEAK, which some users have labeled “lazy” in terms of support and updates.
The official Landfall account stated that PEAK has already received numerous updates and emphasized that neither Landfall nor Aggro Crab operate as live-service game studios.
“Any update is a bonus, not an obligation.”
— Landfall.
It’s worth noting that PEAK costs only around $8, and all released updates (three to date) have been distributed free of charge. Nevertheless, some players remain dissatisfied, arguing that even inexpensive online projects often receive long-term support and new content today.
The developers responded cautiously but firmly, reminding players that they have already added new biomes and features to the game and plan at least one more update.
“Games used to be released without any updates. We’ve already done much more than what was historically common.”
— Landfall.
