The long-held hopes of NieR series fans appear to be nearing fruition, with a potential new installment or project possibly in development.
Nine years have passed since the release of NieR: Automata, the acclaimed second entry in the franchise, which originated as a Drakengard spin-off. Until recently, there was little indication that creator Yoko Taro was planning a new chapter, especially given his ongoing work on a fresh “Evangelion” project.
However, a spark of hope has ignited following a recent post on the official NieR brand social media profile. The post featured a brief yet impactful video, revealing a project titled “NieR: Cosmic Horror.” The video’s caption in Japanese translates to: “A new NieR project is decided. What is born from the void, hope? Or despair in the name of salvation? Coming Soon…”
Currently, it remains uncertain whether “NieR: Cosmic Horror” will manifest as a full-fledged game or a different type of franchise expansion. Regardless, the announcement has undeniably set the hearts of fans racing. While some express cautious optimism, others remain skeptical, noting that April 1st has already arrived in Japan, raising the possibility of an elaborate April Fool’s joke. Nevertheless, the excitement and anticipation within the community are reaching fever pitch.
