Fans of the popular truck simulation games have long expressed a desire for an expanded towing mechanic. SCS Software, the renowned developers behind the long-haul truck simulators Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator, are now building anticipation by teasing a significant new feature for their upcoming update 1.59. This imminent update is poised to considerably broaden the in-game mechanics and enhance gameplay.
SCS Software has unveiled a brand-new “on-road towing” system. While current gameplay limits players to calling a tow truck primarily for transporting their damaged vehicle directly to a service station for repairs, version 1.59 will introduce a much-requested capability. Players will gain the ability to retrieve a truck that has veered off the road and place it directly back onto the asphalt. This seamless recovery mechanism will empower them to continue their delivery orders with minimal disruption.

The developers have issued an important caution regarding this new service: if a trailer is already detached before initiating the towing request, only the truck itself will be recovered, leaving the trailer at its original position.
Furthermore, SCS Software noted that to prevent potential misuse of this functionality, the “on-road towing” option might become unavailable if a player moves too far from the initial incident site after going off-road. This ensures the feature is used as intended for immediate recovery.
This enhanced towing functionality is anticipated to be highly beneficial for both solo players and those participating in multiplayer sessions. In the current game state, players who drive off-road during multiplayer frequently face a time-consuming journey back from a distant service center to rejoin their convoy. This new feature aims to significantly alleviate that inconvenience, making multiplayer experiences smoother and more engaging.

As of now, SCS Software has not yet announced an official release date for the highly anticipated 1.59 update for Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. Truckers worldwide eagerly await further news.
