The gaming community has achieved a significant success: the colossal 385 TB archive of classic video games known as Myrient has been saved from complete disappearance. Thanks to a concerted effort by the online community, a fully verified backup has been created.
Just a month ago, Myrient’s administrators announced the library’s closure due to escalating server costs and the rising prices of storage media and RAM, attributed to the current AI boom.
However, retro gaming enthusiasts quickly came to the rescue. The “SaveMyrient” team has confirmed the initiative’s success: all files from the original server have been downloaded, verified, and secured on new drives.
Currently, users are widely creating torrent files for temporary distribution, but the primary goal is to restore a full-fledged platform for free access to classic game downloads.
Although the original Myrient service will shut down at the end of the month, the coordinated work of fans has preserved tens of thousands of unique games, ensuring the safeguarding of an important legacy of the gaming industry.
