Warner Bros. is actively assembling the cast for the sequel to ‘Minecraft The Movie’. It has recently been announced that Kirsten Dunst has joined the project, taking on the role of Alex, one of the central characters in the Minecraft universe, alongside Steve.
While Dunst has predominantly focused on independent film projects in recent years, she had previously expressed interest in participating in a ‘Minecraft’ sequel. The actress mentioned that her children thoroughly enjoyed the first film, and she was keen to work on a commercially successful project.
Most of the original cast members are expected to return for the sequel. Jack Black will reprise his role as Steve, and Jason Momoa will return as Garrett the “Scavenger.” Confirmation regarding the participation of Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge is still pending. Jared Hess will once again direct, with Chris Galletta penning the screenplay.
Filming for ‘Minecraft The Movie 2’ is scheduled to commence in April 2026 in New Zealand. Producers have also confirmed that the Ender Dragon will make an appearance in the sequel.
The global premiere of the film is set for July 23, 2027.
