The valuable experience gained from developing the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance laid a solid foundation for its much-anticipated sequel.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II has garnered widespread critical acclaim and positive feedback from both journalists and players. Many who experienced the original KCD have particularly highlighted the significant progress made by Warhorse Studios in the sequel.
In a recent interview with EDGE magazine, Prokop Jirsa, a key figure in the game’s development, shed light on why Kingdom Come: Deliverance II represents a substantial improvement over its predecessor:
“With the first game, much of what we were doing was entirely new; we were experimenting and learning on the fly. When you’re attempting something truly innovative, the likelihood of achieving perfection right from the outset is quite slim.”

However, when Warhorse Studios embarked on the development of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, the landscape had changed significantly. The team now possessed a clear understanding of effective strategies and how to implement them:
“We had a much better grasp of what was successful and what wasn’t, and crucially, what specific improvements our players were hoping for. By the time KCD II was nearing release, our studio had grown to around 250 people—approximately a hundred more than during the development of the first game. This growth necessitated and facilitated the introduction of new workflows and organizational structures. These changes provided us with a far clearer overview of the project’s status and the intricate connections between all its systems. It was the only viable method to maintain control over such an expansive and complex endeavor.”
