Iconic ‘Heroes 3’ Becomes Youth Bestseller, Signaling Market Shift, Says GOG

Heroes of Might and Magic III continues to captivate a new generation of players, demonstrating its timeless appeal.

During the recent GDC 2026 developers’ conference, representatives from GOG highlighted the enduring popularity of the classic strategy game, ‘Heroes of Might and Magic III’.

The game has achieved the status of GOG’s top-selling retro title, with a remarkable nearly 50% of its purchasers being individuals under the age of 25.

GOG speculates that for a younger audience, accustomed to titles like Minecraft and Roblox, high-fidelity graphics and technical ‘prettiness’ are not paramount. This trend, they suggest, signifies a profound shift in market dynamics and player preferences, indicating that compelling gameplay and strategic depth can transcend visual sophistication, even for those who didn’t grow up with the original game.
