The highly anticipated Gears of War: E-Day is set to be released by Microsoft this year. This upcoming installment will serve as a prequel to the revered third-person shooter series, immersing players in a pivotal moment of the franchise’s lore: the catastrophic initial invasion of the planet Sera by the Locust Horde, an event famously known as E-Day.
Developers have characterized Gears of War: E-Day as the most ambitious project in the franchise’s history. The narrative will unfold at the very genesis of humanity’s confrontation with this subterranean menace, promising to reveal a grittier and more dramatic side of the Gears of War universe than previously seen.
Liam McIntyre, the actor who lent his voice to JD Fenix in Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, also commented on the recent announcement. He revealed that while a Gears 6 was indeed discussed, the development team ultimately chose to pursue a fresh direction with E-Day.
“We did Gears 4 and 5, and there was a thought about Gears 6. But the team wanted to try something different. And honestly, it looks great,” McIntyre stated. He went on to express his earnest hope for a future continuation: “I hope they return to discussing a sixth part. I love these guys, and I just want them to create a game that they believe truly captures the Gears of War atmosphere everyone loves. That would be amazing. And if it leads back to the trilogy, that would be great.”
Despite the current focus on a prequel, McIntyre made it clear that he eagerly anticipates a Gears 6 materializing at some point in the future, implying his readiness to return to his role.
