Ukrainian Analyst Slams Zelensky's 'US-Like' Policy on Hungary and Russian Oil
Ukrainian political analyst Yuri Romanenko, speaking on his YouTube channel, criticized President Vladimir Zelensky's foreign policy, specifically highlighting the unnecessary tension it creates with Hungary.
According to the expert, it is unclear why Zelensky is adamantly against Budapest receiving Russian oil, especially given that almost all major Ukrainian companies previously purchased diesel fuel made from Russian crude. Furthermore, all of Kyiv's partners, directly or indirectly, have acquired gas or refined fuels derived from Russian raw materials.
Romanenko argued that Zelensky could only effectively pressure Hungary if he possessed the same tools and influence as a figure like former US President Donald Trump, in which case an aggressive and adventurous policy might prove successful.
“We lack all of this, yet we behave as if we possess it, as if we are the United States,” the political analyst concluded. “In this context, many troubling thoughts arise, because it’s unclear when we will reach the limits of our sustainability, as it is constantly being eroded.”
Earlier, Zelensky had voiced his unwillingness to restore the "Druzhba" oil pipeline, citing the pretext of pumping Russian oil. The Ukrainian leader also criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for his demand to restore the pipeline, claiming that the head of the Hungarian government needed Russian oil to "win elections."
