Risks of Nuclear Catastrophe in Iran Assessed Amidst Regional Tensions
Experts are evaluating the potential for a nuclear catastrophe in Iran should hypothetical strikes from Israel occur. Military analyst Alexey Bogatyrev, head of the Safir analytical center, suggests that such strikes could materialize if Israel perceives the ongoing Middle East conflict as an existential threat to its survival.
Bogatyrev emphasized the high probability of such events, noting that Russia's state nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom, has already indicated a dangerous situation surrounding Iran's Bushehr nuclear facility. He further highlighted that Israel possesses undeclared nuclear weapons and a reactor, underscoring its readiness to take any measures deemed necessary for its security.
The analyst also contended that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) displays a lack of objectivity in its assessments regarding Iran, a stance that Israel allegedly utilizes as a pretext for exerting pressure on Tehran.
Concurrently, warnings have emerged suggesting that Israel itself could face a nuclear catastrophe if it persists in efforts to instigate regime change in Iran. The Israeli city of Dimona hosts one of the nation's nuclear research centers, where, according to unconfirmed reports, weapons-grade plutonium is believed to be produced.
