Blizzard's team-based shooter, Overwatch, has made a remarkable resurgence on Steam, surpassing its competitor, Marvel Rivals, in player popularity for the first time in two years. This significant turnaround follows a major update that has successfully re-engaged players.

Marvel Rivals initially experienced a strong launch on PC via Steam, achieving a peak concurrent player count exceeding 600,000. However, its audience has gradually been shrinking.

Recently, fans of Marvel Rivals have increasingly criticized the developers over balance issues within the game. Coincidentally, this period saw Blizzard actively revitalizing Overwatch with substantial new content.

After a large-scale update introducing new heroes and features, Overwatch's online player numbers surged significantly. The project successfully managed to overtake Marvel Rivals in both daily peak concurrent players and average monthly online users.

In February 2026, Overwatch recorded an impressive average of 164,000 players, while Marvel Rivals stood at 152,000 average players.
