Digital Foundry recently conducted a comprehensive technical analysis of Resident Evil 4 Remake, comparing its graphical performance on PlayStation 5 with various PC settings. Their investigation also yielded optimal configurations for the PC version, which they largely praised as a competent port. Without ray tracing enabled, the game reportedly runs comfortably even on relatively modest computers.

However, the situation shifts dramatically once ray tracing is activated. Engaging this feature can lead to significant frame rate drops, particularly affecting users with graphics cards equipped with 8GB of VRAM. Consequently, Digital Foundry advises players to disable ray tracing for a smoother gaming experience.

To strike the best balance between visual fidelity and performance, Digital Foundry has proposed a set of custom settings. These recommendations include tailored adjustments for GPUs with 8GB of video memory, as well as separate guidelines for cards boasting over 8GB of VRAM.

Despite its strengths, the PC version of Resident Evil 4 Remake isn't without its shortcomings. Journalists highlighted the absence of a Field of View (FoV) setting, which is considered a standard feature for modern first-person titles. Another surprising omission is the inability to disable the "film grain" effect directly within the graphics options. Furthermore, the game lacks a distinct option to enable ray reconstruction when ray tracing is in use, which could further enhance performance or visual quality.
