The story of Mike Prinke, a former Epic Games employee, has garnered significant attention after his wife publicly shared their critical situation. Mike, who is battling a terminal illness, lost his health insurance as a consequence of the company’s recent mass layoffs.

According to his wife, his medical condition is now classified as a “pre-existing ailment,” making it considerably difficult to secure new insurance coverage. She voiced profound concerns regarding looming medical expenses, funeral arrangements, the ability to maintain their home, and the future well-being of their son and pets.

This development sparked widespread criticism directed at Epic Games and its CEO, Tim Sweeney. Responding to the public outcry, Sweeney confirmed that the company has reached out to the Prinke family and will provide assistance in resolving the insurance predicament. He also emphasized that an individual’s medical information is strictly confidential and played no role in the decision-making process for the layoffs.

Sweeney expressed regret that the company was not previously aware of this “extremely painful situation,” which prevented them from addressing it sooner.
