After a long wait, the cult anime adaptation of Q Hayashida’s manga, “Dorohedoro,” has finally received its continuation.
More than six years after the premiere of its first season, “Dorohedoro” Season 2 has officially launched. New episodes are now available for streaming on Netflix and Crunchyroll, where viewers can already enjoy the first three installments.
The production is once again handled by the renowned MAPPA studio, which has brought back the same talented creative team from the first season. Director Yuichiro Hayashi has returned to the project after completing his work on “Attack on Titan,” Hiroshi Seko is once again writing the script, and Tomohiro Kishi is responsible for character design. The musical score continues to be crafted by the group (K)NoW_NAME, whose compositions perfectly capture the series’ atmosphere.
The anime is based on Q Hayashida’s manga of the same name, which was created over nearly two decades (from 2000 to 2018). The story unfolds in a dark and bizarre world centered around a city called The Hole – a place where sorcerers from another dimension regularly arrive to conduct brutal and often deadly experiments on its inhabitants.
The plot revolves around Caiman, a man with a lizard’s head suffering from amnesia. Accompanied by Nikaido, the energetic owner of the “Hungry Bug” restaurant, he embarks on a hunt for sorcerers in hopes of finding the one who transformed him into a monster. However, the narrative doesn’t adhere to a traditional “good versus evil” dichotomy; the story skillfully unveils the motives and perspectives of various sides of the conflict, offering viewers a deep dive into an ambiguous world and constantly challenging them to re-evaluate their allegiances.
New episodes will be released regularly every Wednesday. In total, the second season will consist of eleven episodes.
