Experts at Digital Foundry have conducted a detailed analysis of the PlayStation 5 version of Crimson Desert, and their conclusions were quite disheartening. Specifically, the performance mode targeting 60 frames per second was labeled “terrible.”
The primary concern of the experts isn’t just about unstable frame rates. A far more significant issue was the catastrophic image blur and poor visual fidelity.
“My goodness, how blurry this is! There’s no FSR support here. It looks like it’s just basic TAA at 1080p, and it looks terrible. I was genuinely shocked. Looking at it on my OLED TV, I thought the resolution was only 720p. It reminded me of times I played very blurry games from the first Nintendo Switch – the presentation here is the same. The quality difference between PS5 and PS5 Pro is huge. It’s the biggest disparity I’ve seen so far. The PS5 Pro provides significantly better performance and incomparably better image quality.”
The graphical quality gap between the base PlayStation 5 and the PS5 Pro model is described as colossal. Experts emphasize that “the Pro provides significantly better performance and infinitely better visual quality.”
Rendering issues at 1080p had previously been noted in the PC version of the game as well. Questions arise as to whether the game’s engine truly outputs the claimed resolution, given how poor the image appears. Consequently, Digital Foundry advises owners of the standard PS5 to play Crimson Desert only in 30 or 40 FPS modes. Engaging the 60 FPS mode only makes sense on the PS5 Pro.
