Cygames has announced the impending closure of its popular digital collectible card game, Shadowverse. After nearly ten years on the market, the game’s servers are scheduled to be permanently disconnected on June 30, 2026.
Launched in 2016, Shadowverse quickly established itself as a significant contender in the CCG genre. Over its lifespan, it boasted an impressive collection of over 5,000 cards, numerous game modes, collaborations with various brands, and a thriving esports scene featuring substantial prize pools.
The process of winding down the game has already begun. Cygames has disabled the ability for players to purchase premium in-game currency, although existing resources that players have accumulated can still be spent. In the coming months, special in-game events and content rotations are planned to provide a symbolic conclusion to the project’s journey.
It’s important to note that the Shadowverse franchise will not vanish entirely. Its legacy is set to continue with the newer title, Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond, which launched in 2025 and remains an active part of the franchise.
While detailed reasons for the original game’s shutdown were not explicitly provided, Shadowverse will depart the market after a decade, leaving behind its status as one of the most recognizable free-to-play digital card games globally.
