For fans of the role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, cosplayer Anya Deychan has masterfully brought to life Mael, a character depicted as a young woman eager to explore the world and determine her own destiny.
Photographer Varvara “Nelapa” Lapina collaborated with model Anya Deychan to explore the universe of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a critically acclaimed RPG that has garnered numerous awards and significant positive feedback from the gaming community.

During the photo session, cosplayer Deychan skillfully transformed into Mael, one of the game’s playable heroines.

Mael is portrayed as the youngest member of the 33rd Expedition, distinguished by her red hair tied into a high ponytail. Her attire, practical for combat, is designed in an Art Deco style, featuring a fitted black and purple jacket with golden patterns and epaulets, narrow trousers with straps, and tall lace-up boots.

She is a complex character whose personality unfolds throughout the narrative. Mael struggles deeply with loss and is frequently driven by grief. Feeling out of place in Lumiere, she perceives the Expedition as an opportunity to escape the city, experience the world, and define her own fate.

Mael shares a profound bond with Gustave, who became her only true confidant after she was orphaned at the tender age of three.
