While many of us have our strengths, I must confess that my sense of direction is absolutely non-existent, whether navigating virtual landscapes or real-world streets. If you asked me for directions at a stop sign, I’d undoubtedly lead you astray.
Perhaps it’s no surprise then that I frequently consult in-game world maps when playing video games. Thankfully, these digital tools are a joy to use. There’s a certain magic in exploring a new game’s map for the first time, deciphering fantasy town names and mysterious landmarks – a stark contrast to the robotic voice of a GPS announcing I’ve missed yet another turn.
This week’s challenge is a tribute to these fictional navigation systems: a quiz designed to test your ability to recognize various video games solely from a screenshot of their world map. You won’t need to know your left from your right, but you will need to distinguish regions like Midgard from Ishgard.
You have 15 minutes to identify 20 video games based on images of their world maps. Some screenshots offer more clues than others, and you won’t always see the entire world, but skilled gaming cartographers should find this task quite manageable.
After taking the quiz, feel free to share your score in the comments section! We’d also love to hear your thoughts: Which video game world maps truly stand out to you and why?
