The creators of the pirate role-playing game Caribbean Legend are actively working to make their game more inclusive and accessible to a wider range of players. In their latest developer diary, the team outlined several upcoming features aimed at improving the player experience for those with specific needs.
The developers emphasized their commitment to inclusivity, stating:
“Inclusivity starts with us, with every player request we address. That’s why we are now beginning to work on the accessibility of our game, with the first step being the addition of color schemes for people with color vision deficiencies.”
Among the first accessibility enhancements is the option to change color schemes. Players will be able to adjust the palette of the “Course Angle” display, making it more subdued and easier to perceive for individuals with colorblindness.
Another helpful addition is the “Navigation Assistance” option. This feature allows players to toggle navigational arrows on the compass, which indicate the maximum speed relative to the wind, providing clearer guidance during sailing.
Addressing a frequent request from PC and Steam Deck users, the developers are also introducing an “Increased Dialogue Text” option. This setting will allow players to enlarge the size of dialogue windows by 30%, offering improved readability at the cost of some aesthetic space.
Beyond accessibility, the developers are also continuing to refine the game’s naval artificial intelligence. These ongoing improvements aim to create more dynamic and challenging sea battles:
- **Increased Aggressiveness:** Ships that initiate attacks on the player will become more aggressive, reducing instances of “cowardly” pirates and ensuring quest-related ships no longer attempt to flee.
- **Smarter Projectile Selection:** Enemies will demonstrate improved intelligence in choosing their projectile types, taking into account distance and the charging percentage of their cannons.
- **New Salvo Modes:** Opponents will gain access to and actively utilize new salvo firing modes, adding more tactical variety to combat.
- **Enhanced Accuracy:** The firing accuracy of enemy ships will be significantly improved, making naval encounters more demanding and realistic.
