Capcom Releases Original Resident Evil Trilogy on Steam, Honoring the Classics

Capcom has launched the original Resident Evil trilogy on Steam, making these classic, enhanced versions—previously exclusive to GOG for PC gamers—now widely accessible. This move allows PC players to expand their Steam libraries with these foundational survival horror titles.

Players quickly noted that the titles of these original Resident Evil games are correctly capitalized and include their release years in parentheses:

  • Resident Evil (1996)
  • Resident Evil 2 (1998)
  • Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (1999)

This approach suggests that Capcom has learned from the 2022 controversy. Back then, fans heavily criticized the company for changing the name of the classic Resident Evil 4 to “resident evil 4 (2005)” (in lowercase letters) shortly before the release of its remake. The current, respectful presentation of the original trilogy on Steam reflects a positive shift towards acknowledging the legacy of these iconic games.
