Brie Larson: Hollywood Must Learn from the Gaming Industry

Actress Brie Larson believes the film and television industries should draw significant inspiration from the world of video games. The star, known for her role as Captain Marvel, shared her insights during an appearance on Fandango’s “Seen on the Screen” podcast.

Larson emphasized that the gaming community today vastly surpasses the audience for movies and TV shows. In her view, society still commonly discusses books or films, but rarely their favorite games, despite statistics suggesting the opposite trend.

“The gaming community is much larger than the world of film and television,” Larson stated. “People ask, ‘What film did you watch?’ or ‘What book are you reading?’, but not as often, ‘What video game are you currently playing?’ I believe we would be surprised to find that more people actually play games.”

She also noted that while the video game industry has historically borrowed many techniques from filmmaking, it is now time for cinema to reciprocate.

“Video games take a lot from cinematography, and I think it’s time for us in film to admit that we can take from video games,” she explained.

According to the actress, the gaming industry has become a dominant force in contemporary culture. Hollywood, she suggests, must acknowledge this reality to remain relevant and keep pace with modern trends.
