For many fans, Fallout: New Vegas has achieved cult status, with numerous players still campaigning for an updated version. It appears that this installment’s high regard extends beyond just the player base.
Artist Jonah Lobe, who contributed to Fallout 3 and 4, shared his insights during the KIWI TALKZ podcast. He revealed that he initially felt a degree of resentment when Fallout: New Vegas was compared to Bethesda’s own projects:
“We created 90% of the visuals, the engine, managed it in a very short time and put in a lot of effort, and they [Obsidian] just had to work on the story.”
However, Lobe’s perspective has evolved over time. He now concedes that Obsidian successfully “preserved the spirit of Fallout” and, arguably, achieved this “even better than we [Bethesda]” did.
Another artist, Nate Purkeypile, who worked on Fallout 3, 4, and 76, lauded Fallout: New Vegas’s robust faction system but also highlighted areas where the game fell short:
“I think [New Vegas] is a really good game, but in some aspects, it’s weaker. I think the dungeons and world design aren’t as good.”
