Former Bethesda Lead Character Artist, Dennis Mejillones, revealed a peculiar issue Todd Howard faced during his tenure in an interview with Kiwi Talkz. According to Mejillones, Howard was surrounded by many sycophants, and numerous staff members simply hesitated to express dissent.

Mejillones, who himself wasn’t afraid to voice his concerns in critical situations, described Howard as “an amazing person.” However, he emphasized that Howard isn’t perfect and doesn’t always make the ideal decisions. The artist recalled frequently telling Howard things like, “Hey man, that’s not a very good idea. That’s bad. You shouldn’t do that.” He also admitted to sometimes remaining silent but inwardly questioning the wisdom of certain choices. Nevertheless, if a matter felt serious, he always articulated his opinion.

Mejillones believes that colleagues’ unwillingness or fear to openly contradict Todd Howard ultimately had a negative impact on the development process.

It’s important to note that Dennis Mejillones left Bethesda in 2021, so the current situation within the studio may have evolved since then.
