Analyst Suggests Abandoning Consoles: Predicts Few Will Pay $1,000 for PlayStation 6

Prominent industry analyst Michael Pachter, who has long anticipated a significant shift away from traditional gaming consoles, is once again stirring debate with his latest predictions regarding future hardware pricing.

Pachter highlights the escalating cost of gaming consoles as a major factor poised to fundamentally reshape the industry in the coming years. He points to the PlayStation 5 as an example, noting that its base model’s price increased from $399.99 at launch to $599.99 within five years, a trend he believes is just the beginning.

Experts are warning that the next generation of consoles could become even less accessible. Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, projects that the anticipated PlayStation 6 could launch with a price tag around $1,000. According to Pachter, such a high entry cost would inevitably make the device unaffordable for a significant portion of the gaming community.

As a radical solution, Pachter proposes a complete pivot from traditional console hardware to cloud gaming. He believes the industry will gradually transition to a model where games are streamed and run directly on smart televisions, thereby eliminating the need for consumers to purchase expensive, dedicated gaming devices.
